The paediatric ward at St George’s Hospital, which was temporarily shut down during the peak of the pandemic to make room for Covid-19 treatment center, has now been reopened. The paediatric ward has now been reopened in a phased manner with 25 beds and the hospital administration is optimistic about restoring the department to its full operational capacity in the near future.

The responsibility of restarting the ward has been delegated to Dr Vineet Warte by the hospital superintendent Dr Vinayak Sawardekar. “Dr Warte, along with a team of five doctors and four nurses, has expedited the process to reopen the department,” said sources from St George’s Hospital. Conveying the hospital's commitment to increase the capacity of the paediatric ward, Dr Sawardekar said, “The current 25-bed capacity will soon be augmented to accommodate 40 beds.”

Sources from St George’s Hospital said, “The ward will be renovated and equipped with attractive toys for the children arriving for treatment. As of now 50-100 patients visit the paediatric outpatient department (OPD) on a daily basis. As the ward is being reopened in a phased manner, 15 out of the 25 beds, will be available for admissions.”
