Western Railway (WR) is gearing up to conduct a survey between Andheri and Churchgate railway stations to explore the possibility of extending platforms to accommodate 15-coach trains which already run between Andheri and Virar. This move comes in response to the increasing demand for longer trains and the existing congestion in the 12-coach locals that currently operate on this route.

Niraj Verma, DRM, WR, said, “The extension project aims to reduce the burden on the existing 12-coach locals and maximise the utilisation of 15-coach trains that already run between Andheri and Virar. If approved by the Railway Board, the project is estimated to cost approximately R400 crore. This initiative seeks to enhance passenger comfort and accommodate the increasing demand for public transportation along this route. Additionally, the extension is expected to improve the overall efficiency of train operations and contribute to a more sustainable urban transportation system.”
