Prime Minister <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/pm-modi-in-mumbai-mumbais-long-wait-has-ended-with-inauguration-of-navi-mumbai-airport-says-pm-modi-23597793" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Narendra Modi</a> slammed the Congress for not taking strong action against Pakistan following the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
Addressing a gathering at Navi Mumbai, the PM said that Mumbai is not just India&rsquo;s financial capital but also one of its most vibrant cities.
&ldquo;That&rsquo;s why terrorists targeted Mumbai,&rdquo; he said at the inauguration of Navi Mumbai International Airport on Wednesday.
Modi claimed that our security forces were ready to strike Pakistan after the terror attack.
&ldquo;Then the Congress-led government showed weakness. Due to pressure from another country, the Congress government stopped the attack,&rdquo; Modi asserted.
Ten terrorists from Pakistan&rsquo;s Lashkar-e-Tayyiba had come from Karachi (Pakistan) by boat to Mumbai. This terrorist group attacked several places in <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/pm-modi-in-mumbai-pm-modi-inaugurates-final-phase-of-mumbai-metro-line-3-says-connectivity-essential-for-citys-growth-23597788" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Mumbai</a>, killing 164 people. While nine of them were shot dead during the attack, Mohammed Ajmal Kasab was caught alive. Later, the court convicted Kasab, and he was hanged in 2012.
Modi said that the country has repeatedly paid for this mistake (read as Congress&rsquo;s weakness). &ldquo;For us, nothing is more important than the safety of our citizens and national security,&rdquo; he added. The PM even slammed the MVA (Maha Vikas Aghadi) for stalling several development projects.
Further during the address, <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/pm-modi-in-mumbai-pm-modi-inaugurates-navi-mumbai-airport-we-have-built-more-than-an-airport-says-gautam-adani-23597832" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Modi</a> urged people to push for the use of Swadeshi products. He even stated that reforms in the GST have boosted purchasing power. &ldquo;Post GST rate cuts, reports suggest that people are buying bikes, cars, and electronic goods. The sale has gone up for everything,&rdquo; he added.
