Ravindra Dhangekar, the Congress candidate for the Pune Lok Sabha constituency, protested outside the Maharashtra Police Commissioner's office, demanding justice for the victims of the Pune car crash. Dhangekar accused the police of failing to perform their duties and demanded the resignation of the Police Commissioner.

Speaking to ANI about Pune car crash, Dhangekar said, "In this case, the police official is the defaulter and a case must be registered against him. Those who passed away must get justice. The Police Commissioner knows everything; he must resign. I will protest against this. I am here so that he knows that the people of Pune are on the roads (to seek justice for the victims)."

The demonstration came amid mounting public indignation over Pune car crash in which two IT professionals, Ashwini Koshta and Aneesh Awadhia, were killed on May 19 when a 17-year-old driving a Porsche collided with their bike.

In reaction to the Pune car crash, the city police questioned the accused teenager's grandfather, as well as his father, driver, and friend, to piece together the events that led up to the accident. The authorities are investigating making the driver a witness after he allegedly offered to drive the Porsche but was overruled by the teenager's father.

The police have also taken the father's phone to investigate call records and summoned the teenager's grandparents for additional questioning in Pune car crash case. The accused's father, as well as the bar's owners and manager, are in police custody and being probed.

The two IT professionals from Madhya Pradesh were pronounced deceased on the scene.

Amid the growing outrage, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar held a press conference wherein he assured that the victims will get justice and that the accused of Pune car crash will receive punishment. He also said that they are attempting to prepare a watertight case against the accused.

Pune CP Amitesh Kumar said, "Effort was made to change the driver during that period. We are investigating this also. It is true that at the start the driver had said that he was driving the car. We are investigating this part also under whose pressure the driver made that statement we are investigating it."
