A major water pipeline supplying Maharashtra`s Thane city has been damaged, forcing the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) to impose a 30 per cent water cut for the next three days.

The 1,000 mm diameter pipeline, which carries water from the Pise Weir to the Temghar Water Treatment Plant, was damaged near Kalyan Phata on the morning of December 6 during work undertaken by Mahanagar Gas Limited. According to the TMC’s Water Supply Department, repair work has been ongoing for the past two days, but the pipeline, being old and built using prestressed concrete technology, requires additional time for restoration.
