Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut has criticized the Maharashtra government over the soaring prices of onions, stating that the government has no right to remain in power. Raut emphasized that onions are a staple food for the poor and farmers in Maharashtra, and the government's inability to address the rising onion prices reflects poorly on its governance.

The recent imposition of a 40% export duty on onions by the Central government has led to protests by onion farmers in Maharashtra, particularly in the Nashik district. The Finance Ministry issued a notification on August 19 announcing the export duty, which will be in effect until December 31, 2023. The move comes as concerns about onion price increases are raised for the upcoming months.
