Water supply to be disrupted in parts of Thane on November 1

The Thane Municipal Corporation TMC has announced a 24hour water supply shutdown in several parts of the city on Saturday November 1 to carry out essential infrastructure work aimed at improving the cityrsquos water distribution networkAccording to the civic body the shutdown will impact areas under the Vartak Nagar and Lokmanya Savarkar Nagar ward committees The disruption is necessary to commission a newly laid 1168 mm diameter water main connected to the Indiranagar pump mdash a key component of Thanersquos water supply systemTo facilitate the integration work the TMCrsquos water supply department will also install a valve on the 750 mm main pipeline at Nitin Company Junction As a result water supply will remain completely suspended for 24 hours from 9 am on Saturday November 1 to 9 am on Sunday November 2Areas likely to be affected include Indiranagar Srinagar Waralipada Kailasnagar Reno Tank Rupadevi Rupadevi Reno Tank Ramnagar Yeoor Air Force area and Lokmanya areaTMC officials have cautioned that once the connection work is completed and supply resumes residents may experience low water pressure for one to two days as the system stabilises The civic body has urged citizens to store adequate water in advance and use it judiciously during the shutdownThe commissioning of the new 1168 mm water main forms part of TMCrsquos broader efforts to modernise Thanersquos water infrastructure and ensure equitable distribution across the cityThane civic body takes action against 264 illegal structures demolishes 198 of themMeanwhile a total of 198 unauthorised constructions have been demolished since June this year in a sustained campaign by the Thane Municipal Corporation against such structures an official said on Sunday reported the PTIUnauthorised extensions in 66 other structures have been removed during the drive he addedAs per the directions given by the High Court and the inspections conducted by beat inspectors of the Ward Committees as well as the Special Vigilance Teams in Diva and Mumbra the Municipal Corporations AntiEncroachment Team has taken action against a total of 264 unauthorised constructions so far a TMC release said according to the PTIThane Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao reviewed the progress of the campaign on Saturday it addedAll systems should remain alert to ensure no unauthorised construction continues Cases must be registered immediately under MRTP after completing the legal process While registering accurate information should be collected through physical inspection and modern technology the release quoted Rao as sayingBoards should be put up at strategic locations cautioning people against buying houses in unauthorised constructions and citizens must ensure their construction is duly authorised by the City Development Department before making a purchase the release said as per the PTIWith inputs from PTI
