Water supply to Mumbai city has been partially restored as 14 out of 20 pumps have been made operational at Pise pumping station, where a fire broke out Monday evening, Birhanmumbai Municipal Corporation said.

A transformer caught fire at the pumping station in the neighbouring Thane district on Monday evening, impacting the water supply to some parts of the eastern suburbs and the supply from the Golanji, Fosbery, Raoli and Bhandarwada reservoirs, newswire PTI reported.
Following the fire, the civic body imposed a 30 to 100 per cent water cut in several parts of the island city and eastern suburbs. The BMC, in a release, said efforts are being made to restore the water supply to the city.
Eight out of 20 pumps were started by 4 am, and the supply resumed at low pressure from the Golanji, Rawali, Fosberry, and Bhandarwada service reservoirs, and six more pumps were started by 11 am, it said.
Mumbai receives 3,800 MLD of water every day from Bhatsa, Upper Vaitarna, Middle Vaitarna, Tansa, Modak Sagar, Vihar, and Tulsi reservoirs, located in Mumbai, Thane, and Nashik districts.
Meanwhile, Mumbai police has registered a case against Shiv Sena's Uddhav Thackeray faction party leader for allegedly assaulting a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation official during an anti-encroachment drive.
As per police, municipality officials who were returning after taking action against certain unauthorised shops operating on the footpath in Vaishali Nagar, Mulund they were stopped and verbally abused by Anand Pawar, the branch head of Shiv Sena's Uddhav Thackeray faction.
Pawar, who reached the site, stopped BMC officers on the road and verbally abused them, police said. Senior Inspector Ramesh Salve of the municipal corporation attempted to explain, but Pawar did not listen, indulged in indecent behaviour, and slapped the officers.
Following this incident, municipal officials immediately contacted the police who promptly arrived at the scene and registered a case against the Shiv Sena branch head based on the complaint from the municipal officer. The police further initiated an investigation.
Opposition leaders also held a protest outside Vidhan Bhavan today over the law and order situation in the state. (With inputs from agencies)
