Central Railway undertook a tree plantation drive in line with its broader commitment to increasing green cover and reducing carbon emissions.
The Central Railway launched its new ‘Go Green’ initiative, alongside a series of environment-focused activities, at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai on the occasion of World Environment Day 2025, commemorated annually on June 5.
The initiative started with an ‘Environment Pledge’, administered by Central Railway General Manager Dharam Veer Meena, alongside all Principal Heads of Departments (PHODs), senior headquarters officers, and staff. The pledge was also broadcast via video conference by the Member of Traction and Rolling Stock (MTRS), Railway Board.
In his address, Meena underscored the critical role trees play in sustaining life on Earth, both ecologically and environmentally. He highlighted the numerous benefits of trees, not only in providing oxygen, shade, and shelter but also in acting as natural protectors during thunderstorms by safely diverting electrical discharges away from populated areas.
