Thane: Seven-year-old boy feared drowned in swollen creek in Kalwa
A seven-year-old boy is feared drowned in a swelling creek at Kalwa in Thane district on Wednesday, an official said. A frantic search is underway for Rishi Usva, a resident of Nagsen Nagar, who accidentally fell into the flooded water body around 5.30 pm, said Avinash Sawant, the chief of the regional disaster management cell of the Thane Municipal Corporation. Rain fury: Cops rescue 35 passengers from bus stuck on flooded bridge in Maharashtra
At least 35 passengers had a close shave on Wednesday when the bus ferrying them got stranded in the middle of a swollen nullah in Maharashtra`s Chandrapur district before they were rescued by police personnel. The incident occurred in the morning when the bus coming from Madhya Pradesh headed towards Hyderabad got stuck on a bridge submerged by flooded Chincholi nullah in Rajura tehsil, 28 km from the Chandrapur district headquarters, a police official said. Maharashtra: 200 families shifted to safety in Nanded district, Painganga in flood
As many as 200 families were shifted to safer locations in central Maharashtra`s Nanded district on Wednesday as the level of the Painganga river was rising owing to incessant rains, officials said. Road links to 26 villages in the district have been cut off due to floods, they added. (PTI)

Pune: School announces holiday tomorrow due to heavy rainfall
All the schools in Pune city as well as in the neighbouring Pimpri Chinchwad area will remain closed on Thursday due to a heavy rain forecast, officials said. Pune city and the district have been witnessing heavy downpour for the last few days and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall on Thursday too. "As heavy rainfall is predicted by the weather department, a holiday has been declared on Thursday (July 14) for all civic-run, private, aided and non-aided primary, secondary and higher secondary schools in Pune municipal limits," said a release from the municipal corporation`s education department. About 2,000 people shifted to safety as rains lash Gadchiroli in eastern Maharashtra
As many as 1,920 people from 19 villages have been shifted to safer locations in the last three days as rains pound eastern Maharashtra`s Gadchiroli district, officials said on Wednesday. The India Meteorological Department`s (IMD) Nagpur office has issued an `orange alert` warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall for the district. (PTI)

Thane: Boulder crashes on bypass road amid heavy rains
A boulder crashed on a bypass road between Panvel and Thane in Maharashtra amid heavy rainfall on Wednesday, a civic official said. No one was injured in the incident that took place on Mumbra bypass road around 11.30 am, said Avinash Sawant, the chief of the regional disaster management cell (RDMC) of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC). Local firemen and the RDMC rushed to the spot at Sainik Nagar and began clearing the road, he said. (PTI)

IMD forecasts intense showers in many parts of Maha over next 3 to 4 hrs
The India Meteorological Department on Wednesday morning issued a nowcast warning for Maharashtra`s Pune, Satara, Solapur, Sangli and Kolhapur districts, predicting moderate to intense rainfall at isolated places in next 3 to 4 hours. A nowcast is a prediction made by analysis of data currently available.
The IMD has also issued a similar warning for Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Dhule, Nandurbar, Osmanabad, Aurangabad, Beed and Nashik districts. "Moderate to intense rain spells also very likely to occur at isolated places in Thane, Palghar, Mumbai and Raigad during the next 3 to 4 hours," IMD`s weather forecasting division head Anupam Kashyapi told PTI.

Three residents of Madhya Pradesh died and as many others are missing after their Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) was swept away from a flooded bridge in Maharashtra`s Nagpur district on Tuesday, police told PTI.

Lakes supplying water to Mumbai now half full, enough for 5 months
After an initial dry spell, the water level in the seven lakes that supply water to the city has reached up to half of the total capacity in less than 15 days. With this, the water stock is enough for five months. But it needs to increase further to 100 per cent capacity by the end of monsoon, i. e.
