Mumbai is witnessing a worrying resurgence of Malaria cases, with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reporting 824 more cases of the vector-borne disease between January and August 2025 compared to the number of cases reported during the same period last year. While 4,021 cases of Malaria were reported during these months in 2024, the same period this year has seen 4,825 cases. The city also witnessed a rise in Chikungunya cases in the same period. Heavy Rain in Mumbai: Quick police rescue saves schoolchildren from waterlogged bus in Matunga
Due to heavy rain today, all schools in the city were given a half-day. Near Matunga Police Station, a Don Bosco school bus got stuck in severe waterlogging. Inside the bus, 6 small children, 2 lady staff members, and the driver were trapped for nearly an hour. Acting immediately, Matunga Senior Police Inspector Ravindra Pawar and his team reached the spot and rescued everyone bringing them safely to the police station. The police provided biscuits to the children to comfort them after the ordeal.

Due to heavy rain today, all schools in the city were given a half-day. Near Matunga Police Station, a Don Bosco school bus got stuck in severe waterlogging. Inside the bus, 6 small children, 2 lady staff members, and the driver were trapped for nearly an hour. Acting immediately, Matunga Senior Police Inspector Ravindra Pawar and his team reached the spot and rescued everyone bringing them safely to the police station. The police provided biscuits to the children to comfort them after the ordeal.

Mumbai Rains LIVE Updates: Mumbai schools close early amid heavy rain&nbsp;
Schools around Dadar, Mahim, and Sion have begun sending students home early given the heavy rains this morning and the possibility of waterlogging around the school premises.
The Dr. Antonio da Silva High School near the Kabutarkhana in Dadar West &nbsp;will not conduct the primary school altogether, which begins in the second half of the day. The secondary school students who were already on school grounds are being sent home as and when the parents come to pick them up. Officially, the secondary school hours go on until 12:50 pm.
Close by, in Mahim, the KJ Khilnani school sent back secondary students by 10:30 am itself, anticipating waterlogging. The decision was brought in since a large share of the school students come from Dharavi, Sion, and neighbouring localities that flood often. The primary school, which is held in the second half of the day, has been given the day off.
In Mazgaon, the Diamond Jubilee School has not declared a holiday. However, the parents of primary and pre-primary school students are being allowed to pick up their wards right away, since neighbouring areas like Byculla and Chinchpokli have begun flooding as well. Three persons, including a senior citizen, were injured after a portion of the staircase of a two-storey building collapsed in south Mumbai on Sunday evening, officials said. The incident was reported at 7.43 pm from the building located on Prabhu Gully, Chirabazar, near the Marine Lines station, a civic official said. A civic official said that 70-year-old Damayanti Rathod, Parag Nazijka (40) and Paresh Sorate (30) suffered injuries. The three were rushed to the nearby government-run GT Hospital, where they are in a stable condition, the official said.
