Mumbai News LIVE Updates: Man killed, two friends injured as MSRTC bus hits scooter in Mumbai
A 29-year-old man died and two of his friends sustained injuries on their way to buy flowers for Holi celebrations after a state transport bus hit their scooter in central Mumbai on Thursday, police said.
The accident occurred around 2.30 am on the Prabhadevi bridge when Pranay Bodke, Karan Shinde, and Durvesh Gorde were going to Dadar flower market from Kalachowki, an official said.
A Shivneri bus, part of the state-owned fleet of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), was heading to Pune when it dashed into the scooter carrying the trio, he said.
Bodke died at the scene, while Shinde and Gorde suffered serious injuries. The two were rushed to a private hospital, he said.

The Bombay High Court on Thursday said that Pushpa Ganediwala, the former HC judge who had faced flak over a series of controversial judgments in POCSO Act cases, was entitled to receive pension on par with a high court judge. Ganediwala was demoted as district sessions judge at the end of her additional judgeship on February 12, 2022, following an uproar over some judgments passed by her on the interpretation of what constitutes a sexual assault under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. She had ruled that there has to be "skin-to-skin contact with sexual intent" in order for the act to be considered as an offence of sexual assault under the POCSO Act, and that "holding hands of a minor girl and opening of zip of his (accused) pants" does not fall under the definition of 'sexual assault' of the Act. In July 2023, Ganediwala filed a petition before the high court, challenging a communication dated November 2, 2022 issued by the HC (original side) registrar declaring that she was not eligible/entitled for pension of a HC judge and other benefits.

Police have busted a bag-lifting gang and arrested one of its key members from Madhya Pradesh while conducting a probe into the theft of cash and valuables of Rs 8 lakh at a wedding in Maharashtra's Palghar district, officials said.&nbsp;During the wedding function last month in Palghar's Virar area, a bag containing Rs 8 lakh in cash and gold ornaments belonging to the bride's family was stolen from the venue, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone III) Jayant Bajbale said at a press conference here on Wednesday.&nbsp;The police launched an extensive investigation, analysing multiple leads, including CCTV footage. Their findings indicated that a bag-lifting gang frequently engaged children to carry out the thefts, the official said.&nbsp;The police also came to know that the gang members were from Kadia, Ghulkedi and Hulkhedi areas of Rajgarh in Madhya Pradesh.&nbsp;A special team from Bolinj police station here was sent to Rajgarh, where the personnel stayed for 11 days and conducted an extensive probe.&nbsp;The team apprehended Vilaskumar Ramjilal Sisodia (34), also known as Sati, in connection with the theft and recovered Rs 7.9 lakh in cash from him, a police release said without specifying the date of his arrest.
