A retired president of a company was allegedly duped of Rs 75 lakh by the wealth manager of a private bank known to him who promised him lucrative returns on share market investment, Mumbai Police said on Tuesday.
The victim had a salary account with a private bank where the accused worked as a wealth manager. He gained the trust of the victim over the past ten years, police said.
The accused assured a 12 per cent return if the retired executive invested his money in shares who ended up transferring Rs 75 lakh from his savings and fixed deposits between August 2023 and November 2024.
The victim stated in the FIR that he didn't receive any returns on his money. As the accused hesitated to return his money and stopped taking his calls, he approached Juhu Police, an official said.
Police registered a case of fraud and launched a search for the wealth

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the city police held Azam (48) late Monday night, making it the seventh arrest in the case so far, he said.
"During the investigation, the EOW found that Azam had received Rs 18 crore through one of the arrested accused, Unnathan Arunachalam. Azam, a resident of Kandivali, runs a business of electrical goods distribution," the official said.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday said as many as 2,964 vehicles have been fined by the police for overspeeding on the Coastal Road here.
Shinde shared the information in the legislative council in a written reply to a question by Shiv Sena (UBT) legislator and Leader of Opposition Ambadas Danve.
He said the Worli and Tardeo transport offices had deployed officials to check on vehicles driven at more than the permissible speed limit.
He said the department took action against 2,964 vehicles so far for overspeeding.
The deputy chief minister said the department has used automatic number plate recognition cameras, and the police have also used speed guns to take action.
He said the transport department undertook a special drive at the Bandra Reclamation to crack down on vehicles that made loud noises and indulged in racing.
The 10-km coastal road, which stretches from Marine Drive to Worli, has been opened in phases since March 12, 2024.
