Standing at nearly 30 feet tall, the Tabebuia rosea trees, planted during a beautification drive, require minimal maintenance, making them a popular choice for roadside avenues.

With over 6,000 Tabebuia rosea trees across Mumbai, the flowers are seen in areas like Nerul, Belapur, Powai, Sion, and Borivali, with Vikhroli hosting the largest plantation. These trumpet-shaped flowers, measuring two to four inches in length, fall to the ground as they bloom, creating a stunning natural carpet of pink petals.

Though not botanically related to Japan`s cherry blossoms, Mumbai’s pink trumpet trees have earned the nickname ‘Mumbai’s cherry blossoms,’ as they bloom between December and February. The blooming of Tabebuia rosea trees on the Eastern Express Highway provides a breathtaking view, especially against the otherwise bare, grayscale backdrop of the highway.

The widespread pink canopy of these trees has become an iconic feature of Mumbai’s landscape during the winter and early spring months.
