The smooth movement of the traffic on Elphinstone Bridge was disrupted on Friday evening, hours before the structure`s closure, after residents staged a protest. Some locals fear that once the bridge is demolished, their homes will be lost and hence, on Friday evening, gathered at the bridge to stop its closure (PICS/ASHISH RAJE)

However, around 8 pm, angry locals reached the bridge and began protesting. They have demanded that they be relocated first
