Airlines must allocate 60 per cent of seats free of cost: DGCA

The DGCA has directed Indian airlines to provide 60 percent of seats free of charge, ensure families sit together, facilitate carriage of sports equipment, musical instruments and pets, and prominently display passenger rights to enhance transparency and passenger experience

India's civil aviation regulator, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), has mandated airlines to allocate a minimum 60 per cent of seats on any flight free of charge to ensure fair access to the flyers.

At present, airlines invariably charge extra to allocate seats of one's choice.
