<p>   Heavy rains continued to lash Mumbai and most parts of Maharashtra for the second consecutive day Friday, impacting normal life across the state, officials said here.</p>  <p>   Road and rail traffic has been affected in Mumbai since Friday morning, hitting the office-bound commuters.</p>  <div id="cke_pastebin">   Sources said that the drains crisscrossing the railway tracks on both Central and Western Railways can manage anywhere around 25-30mm of rains but beyond that if it rains heavily then it can cause troubles in services. Areas like Kurla, Ghatkopar, Thane, Sion, Parel, Bandra, Mahim, Masjid, Mankhurd, Nalasopara are mainly low lying areas.</div>  <div id="cke_pastebin">   u00a0</div>  <div id="cke_pastebin">   Meanwhile during the day, the Central Railway was badly affected due to water logging at places especially Thane-Kalwa and other areas. One could hear announcements about cancellations in bunch being made so as to manage train timings. Trains were running late by over 30 minutes, even as the trains switched platforms continuously.</div>  <div id="cke_pastebin">   u00a0</div>  <div id="cke_pastebin">   Even Western Railway services were running late by 15 minutes and sources said that at least 5 services were cancelled till afternoon. However Nitin David, spokesperson, WR said, &quot;There are no problems on the suburban section, barring water logging at Valsad that affected long distance trains.&quot;</div>  <p>   BMC officials claimed that the sewer drains in Mumbai can take up showers to the tune of 50 mm but beyond that the water will overflow causing water logging on roads and other parts of the city. There were water logging at several parts of the city and suburbs like Parel, Hindmata, Kurla, Ghatkopar, Andheri, Kandivali and near subways.</p>  <div id="cke_pastebin">   There were traffic jams on the eastern and western express highways as vehicles moved at snail?s pace. In the last 24 hours (till 8am) Colaba received 30.2mm rainfall while Santacruz got 35.4mm rainfall.</div>  <div>   u00a0</div>  <div>   However, owing to heavy rains in northwest Maharashtra and south Gujarat, train services on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad and Mumbai-New Delhi sectors were affected since early Friday, according to officials.</div>  <p>   Valsad in south Gujarat was among the worst-hit with two feet water-logging in the station, preventing movement of local and long-distance trains.</p>  <p>   A railway official said that several trains in both directions on the two routes (Mumbai-Ahmedabad and Mumbai-New Delhi) have been regulated at various stations until the water levels recede.</p>  <p>   Weather Bureau Director V.K. Rajeev said that heavy rains are expected to continue lashing Mumbai, coastal Konkan and other parts of the state for the next two days.</p>  <p>   <em><strong>(With inputs from agencies)</strong></em></p>
