Ladakh finally gets separate identity in Aadhaar records, 'J-K' tag removed

Residents of Ladakh will now see their region correctly listed in Aadhaar records, replacing the earlier “Jammu and Kashmir” label. The change, implemented in coordination with UIDAI and the local administration, addresses a long-standing issue that caused inconvenience in accessing services and verifying identity documents

Nearly seven years after Ladakh was carved out as a separate Union Territory in 2019, residents have finally received a key administrative update in their Aadhaar records, reported the PTI.

Earlier, Aadhaar cards still showed “Jammu and Kashmir” in the state field, even though Ladakh had been officially separated. This mismatch continued for a long time and remained a matter of concern for many residents.
