Six people sustained injuries after a car driven by a police constable in an inebriated state hit them in Maharashtra's <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/maharashtra-21-year-old-woman-killed-in-thane-hit-and-run-accident-23584468" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Pune distric</a>t, police said on Tuesday, reported news agency PTI.
The accident occurred in the Ranjangaon area around 11 pm on Sunday, an official said, reported PTI.
He said that <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/maharashtra-20-passengers-injured-after-private-bus-hits-another-vehicle-on-mumbai-nashik-highway-23594266" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">police constable</a> Hemant Iname was on his way home after completing his duty hours when he lost control of his car and rammed into pedestrians and two motorcycles, reported PTI.
Iname, who was in plain clothes, was found to be drunk at the time, and people in the vicinity beat him up, the official said.
Six people, including the constable, were injured and were rushed to a nearby hospital, he added, reported PTI.
"Based on an <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/three-killed-in-car-crash-on-mumbai-nashik-highway-23592444" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">eye-witness account</a>, a case was registered against Iname and his blood samples were collected and sent for testing," the official said.
<h2>Thane man dies after motorbike-truck collision; ambulance delayed by traffic</h2>
In another case, a 29-year-old man died after a truck collided with his motorbike and the ambulance rushing him to hospital got stuck in traffic in Maharashtra's Thane district, police said on Tuesday, reported PTI.
The incident occurred late Monday evening at Nimbavli Naka in <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-pune-expressway-crash-kills-woman-injures-18-others-23586620" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Bhiwandi area</a>, they said, reported PTI.
The victim, identified as engineer Vinod Patil, who worked with a company in Vashind, was returning home to Kasheli village on his motorbike when a truck knocked him down, reported PTI.
The victim fell down and was crushed by the truck, an official from Bhiwandi Taluka police station said.
He was wearing the helmet, which was crushed in the accident, the official said.
After being alerted, police reached the spot, pulled the victim from below the truck and rushed him to the hospital in an ambulance, reported PTI.
But the ambulance got stuck midway in a heavy traffic jam on the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/maharashtra-rains-18-cops-12-bangladeshis-injured-in-pile-up-of-police-vehicles-on-mumbai-pune-expressway-23572358" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Thane-Bhiwandi road</a> and the man died, the official said.
The body was later sent to a government hospital for a postmortem.
A case was registered against the truck driver, who is at large, under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act, the police said.
