In a major crackdown on illegal immigration and human trafficking in Maharashtra, the Pune City Police arrested five Bangladeshi women from the Budhwar Peth red-light in Maharashtra's Pune district, officials said.

Acting on a specific tip-off, senior officers from the Faraskhana Police Station and the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) carried out a targeted operation in the red-light district on Friday. The women detained were found to be living in India illegally without valid documentation, according to the news agency ANI. 

Preliminary investigation revealed they arrived in India unlawfully from Bangladesh, pretended to be residents of West Bengal, and came to Pune to engage in prostitution. The women, aged between 20 and 28, had been using false identity documents to remain in India.
