In an extremely unfortunate incident at Uttar Pradesh&rsquo;s <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/uttar-pradesh-cattle-smuggler-injured-in-police-encounter-in-ballia-arrested-23600872" rel="nofollow">Ballia </a>district, two men were killed and three others injured when a speeding car lost control and rammed into a roadside tree, police said on Wednesday.
As reported by news agency PTI, the incident took place around 10 pm on Tuesday near Diwakarpur village on the Parvatpur-Gherai road. As per the reports, there were five passengers in the vehicle who crashed into a tree, police said.
While highlighting the tragic accident in Uttar Pradesh, the Station House Officer (SHO) Praveen Kumar Singh said that, &ldquo;The deceased have been identified as Vishal Kumar (21) and Satyam (22). Two of the injured, who were in a serious condition, have been admitted to a hospital in Varanasi,&rdquo; as cited by news agency PTI.&nbsp;
According to the police, all five occupants of the vehicle were allegedly under the influence of alcohol. The SHO further added that, &ldquo;The bodies have been sent for postmortem, and further investigation is underway.&rdquo;&nbsp;

In another tragic incident, a woman 'warkari' (devotee) of Lord Vitthal was killed and 10 other pilgrims were injured after a container truck ploughed into their group near Kamshet on the old <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/maharashtra-woman-dead-10-injured-as-container-truck-ploughs-into-group-of-pilgrims-on-mumbai-pune-highway-23602730" rel="nofollow">Mumbai-Pune Highway in Maharashtra </a>earlier on Tuesday.&nbsp;
As reported by the news agency PTI, the tragic accident took place around 6.30 am. The group of pilgrims had set out on foot from Uran in Raigad district in Maharashtra to the temple town of Alandi in Pune district, a distance of more than 130 km.
He said that &ldquo;Some of the pilgrims were travelling in an autorickshaw alongside as part of the group,&rdquo; as per PTI.&nbsp;
"When their 'dindi' (group of pilgrims) was proceeding to Alandi, a speeding container coming from the Pune side hit the warkaris and the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/autorickshaw-drivers-clash-in-thane-police-detain-five-30-vehicles-damaged-23599740" rel="nofollow">autorickshaw</a>. Apparently, the driver of the container lost control due to a slope in the 'ghat' (mountain pass) section," the official of Kamshet police station said, according to the PTI.
The driver fled from the spot after the accident, he said. The deceased woman was identified as Priyanka Tandel (55), the official said, adding that the 10 injured pilgrims were rushed to a hospital.
After the accident, some people, including the other pilgrims, blocked the road to seek the arrest of the driver.
