India General Elections 2024 Phase 7 LIVE Updates: 58.34 pc voting in seventh phase of LS polls till 5 pm, West Bengal leads with 69.89 pc
The seventh and the final phase of polling for Lok Sabha elections on June 1 across seven states and the Union Territory of Chandigarh saw a voter turnout of 58.34 per cent till 5 pm, the Election Commission (ECI) said on Saturday. As per the ECI, West Bengal is leading the voter turnout charts at 69.89 per cent till 5 pm. Other states where polling is underway in the seventh phase are Bihar- 48.86 per cent, Chandigarh- 62.80 per cent, Odisha-- 62.46 per cent, Punjab- 55.20 per cent, Uttar Pradesh-54 per cent and Himachal Pradesh 66.56 per cent.

India General Elections 2024 Phase 7 LIVE Updates: People arrive in traditional attire to vote at world`s highest polling booth in Tashigang
As the nation witnessed the seventh and final phase voting for the Lok Sabha elections on Saturday, Tashigang, the world`s highest polling booth, welcomed voters with great enthusiasm. There was a lot of fervour among voters in Spiti Valley regarding the Mandi parliamentary seat and the Lahaul-Spiti assembly by-election. Local people came to vote in traditional dress at Tashigang. A total of 49 votes were cast by 3 pm at Tashigang polling station, located at 15,256 feet above sea level. Among these, 28 male and 11 female voters cast their votes, resulting in a 79 percent voter turnout. Meanwhile, voter turnout in Spiti Valley was recorded at 69 percent by 3 pm.

After the Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) were looted by a local mob in West Bengal`s South 24 Parganas, Kolkata Police on Saturday claimed that the incident happened in the morning before the polling process began and said that legal action has been taken against the miscreants. "This incident happened in the morning around 6 am much before the polling process in Bengal. Police and CAPF immediately intervened and have taken steps against miscreants. Legal action initiated. Polling in Bhangar started without any interruption and is going on peacefully," Kolkata Police posted on X.

India General Elections 2024 Phase 7 LIVE Updates: 4 security personnel on election duty die of heatstroke
Four security personnel deployed for the Lok Sabha elections have died due to heatstroke over the last one week in Bihar`s Rohtas district, an official said on Saturday. Five security personnel, including two from Nagaland, have died in the last one week in Rohtas, and of them, four died due to heatstroke, said DIG Naveen Chandra Jha. Among the deceased were Indian Reserve Battalion personnel A Nikiye Sumi, a resident of Nagaland`s Zunheboto district, and Pitlohi Losho, a resident of the state`s Phek district. The other deceased were Bihar Police personnel Subhash Prasad Singh of Munger, Devnath Ram of Bhojpur and Samiullah of Motihari, a statement said.
