The CEC meeting took place in New Delhi on September 3, focusing on ticket allocation for the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections and exploring alliance strategies to maximise electoral success.
Bhupinder Singh Hooda, former Haryana Chief Minister, mentioned difficulties in forming an alliance with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) due to differing demands. Congress can only offer 3-4 seats to AAP, while AAP is seeking more.
Bhupinder Hooda is set to be the Congress candidate from Garhi Sampla Kiloi constituency, and Udaybhan will stand from Hodal constituency. Discussions about other potential candidates, including Vinesh Phogat and Rajya Sabha MPs Kumari Selja and Randeep Surjewala, were not covered in the meeting.
The Congress CEC has finalised candidates for 49 seats in Haryana, with names for 34 seats announced and 15 under review. The final list for remaining seats will be decided in the coming days.
The All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge for Haryana, Deepak Babaria, stated that the complete list of candidates, including Vinesh Phogat’s status, will be released within the next two days.
The Haryana Assembly elections are scheduled for October 5, with vote counting set for October 8. This follows the Election Commission of India's revised polling date.
On August 31, the Election Commission of India revised the polling date for Haryana Assembly elections from October 1 to October 5 and adjusted the counting date for Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana to October 8.
