He took control of both the group’s military operations and political activities in Gaza, making him one of the most powerful figures in the organization. Israel had been targeting top Hamas leaders following the deadly October 7 assault, which sparked the ongoing conflict. According to Israeli officials, Mohammad Sinwar became one of their highest-priority targets after taking over from his brother.
