<p>An <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/search/earthquake-articles" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">earthquake</a> of 5.9 magnitude rattled southern Mexico on Friday night, with tremors felt as far as <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/search/mexico-articles" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Mexico</a> City.</p>
<p>However, there were no immediate reports of damage, as per the officials.</p>
<p>The earthquake occurred shortly after 11 p.m. local time near the town of Matias Romero in Oaxaca, at a depth of 67 miles (108 kilometers), according to the US Geological Survey.</p>
<p>"The civil defense agency in Oaxaca state is closely monitoring for any signs of damage," the official informed.</p>
<p>While strong shaking was experienced in Oaxaca`s capital, seismic alarms were triggered in Mexico City, prompting residents to take to the streets, although the majority of areas did not feel significant shaking.</p>
