After Israel’s interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza, worldwide protests have erupted with demonstrators demanding stronger sanctions against Israel. Crowds gathered on Thursday across continents from Europe to Australia and South America in order to protest against the Israeli navy’s blockade. The blockage consisted of 41 ships carrying at least 400 people, including prominent figures like climate activist Greta Thunberg and politicians, who were attempting to reach Gaza.

Post the interception, Global Sumud Flotilla posted on Instagram on Friday stating, “This is an illegal attack on unarmed humanitarians. We call on governments and international institutions to demand their immediate safety and release.” David Adler, who was aboard the flotilla ship posted on X on Wednesday saying, “When you hear that we have been intercepted – and you will hear it, within the coming hours – please do not fear for us. We knew what we were sailing toward. We made this choice with open eyes and full hearts.” This is moments before all communication from the ship was blocked.
