The Coronavirus pandemic in India is growing at an alarming rate with the country recording 3.52 lakh fresh cases over the last 24 hrs.

The Indian Premier League, which began on April 9, is still ongoing and held across the country amid the COVID-19 pandemic which is currently growing.

Former Australia wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist went on to social media platform Twitter in order to show his solidarity with the country amid the COVID pandemic. Adam Gilchrist wrote, 'Frightening Covid numbers. IPL continues. Inappropriate? Or important distraction each night?' He went on to add, 'Whatever your thoughts, prayers are with you.'

Adam Gilchrist was also part of the Indian Premier League and since his debut in 2008, he went on to play 80 matches until 2013. Gilly, as he is fondly called, played for Deccan Chargers - where he lead the team to the IPL title in 2009. The Aussie then played with Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings). Gilchrist scored 2,069 runs at an average of 27.22 and strike rate of 138.39 which included 2 centuries and 11 fifties. He has a peculiar record of bowling 1 ball in IPL and taking 1 wicket from it.

Further, a total of 3,52,991 new COVID-19 cases and 2,812 related deaths and 2,19,272 recoveries from COVID-19 were reported in the last 24 hours, which took the total active number of cases to 28,13,658, as per the health ministry update on Monday morning.
The total count of positive cases now stands at 1,73,13,163, including 1,95,123 deaths and 1,43,04,382 recoveries.
