The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday unveiled its 15-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, with Suryakumar Yadav set to lead the side. In a surprising move, Shubman Gill has been appointed vice-captain, replacing Axar Patel, who remains in the squad but will now serve in a more conventional role.

The Asia Cup 2025 is scheduled to begin on September 9, featuring eight teams, with matches to be held across Dubai and Abu Dhabi. This will be the first time the continental tournament returns to the T20I format since 2022, when Sri Lanka emerged as champions, defeating Pakistan in the final.

India, under the leadership of Rohit Sharma in 2022, failed to reach the final, crashing out during the Super Four stage. Since then, the Indian T20I setup has undergone a significant transformation, with a new generation of players taking center stage. Notably, only four players from India’s 2022 Asia Cup squad have been retained for the upcoming edition, reflecting the selectors’ bold transition towards a youth-driven approach.
