In the first Test match against Team India, <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/ind-vs-sa-1st-test-temba-bavuma-wins-toss-south-africa-opt-to-bat-first-against-team-india-23603148" rel="nofollow">South Africa</a> reached the score of 105 runs for the loss of three wickets at lunch on Day 1 at the Eden Gardens.
The hosts' lead pacer Jasprit Bumrah bagged two wickets by conceding just nine runs in seven overs.
Having opted to bat first, Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton opened the innings for South Africa. Facing 48 balls, Markram managed to score 31 runs, with the help of five boundaries and a maximum, whereas Rickelton garnered 23 runs off 22 deliveries, including four boundaries.
Skipper <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/photo/ind-vs-sa-1st-test-from-temba-bavuma-to-aiden-markram-heres-a-look-at-the-experience-of-south-africa-top-batsmen-108243/3" rel="nofollow">Temba Bavuma</a> was not able to score many runs as he returned to the pavilion after scoring three runs in 11 balls. Wiaan Mulder and Tony de Zorzi are still unbeaten at the crease.
Mulder has accumulated 22 runs off 43 balls, which included three boundaries. On the other hand, de Zorzi has managed to score 15 runs in 38 balls, with the help of a boundary. The visitors will continue the play with the score of 105 runs.
After completing 27 overs, Bumrah helped the side claim two wickets. Along with him, wrist-spinner <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/asia-cup-2025-kuldeep-yadav-opens-up-on-his-spot-in-team-india-playing-xi-23594744" rel="nofollow">Kuldeep Yadav</a> also picked up one wicket for 24 runs in seven overs.
Mohammed Siraj, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, and Washington Sundar's hunt to claim their first wicket continues. Siraj has so far bowled six overs and has been smashed for 34 runs. Axar and Jadeja have completed three overs each and conceded 20 and four runs, respectively. Sundar has just bowled one and given away three runs.
Both teams have entered the clash with younger players, and it will be interesting to see what they have to offer on the big stage.
People will keep a tab on <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/ind-vs-sa-1st-test-rishabh-pant-reflects-on-his-comeback-ahead-of-series-opener-23602992" rel="nofollow">Rishabh Pant</a>, as the left-hander has made his first appearance in international cricket after the injury.
