It is learnt that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will be lobbying for its national team’s entry to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
In the six-team men’s and women’s event, according to the current framework, India (Asia) and Australia (Oceania) are set to qualify directly based on their respective regional rankings, which is the standard qualification criteria for all Olympic disciplines. Other likely qualifiers include Great Britain (Europe), South Africa (Africa) and USA (hosts). While the sixth and final spot is undecided, there is speculation that it could go to a Caribbean nation or another Asian team.
Thus, Pakistan and New Zealand are among the prominent cricket-playing nations, who may miss out on the quadrennial showpiece, and PCB aren’t ready to give up. “Olympics are a prestigious event, and with cricket included, we cannot afford to miss out,” a PCB source told telecomasia.net.
