St Lawrence claim MSSA Ahmed Sailor under-16 boys title at Cooperage

St Lawrence HS (Kandivli) showed nerves of steel to overcome Don Bosco HS (Borivli) 4-2 via the tie-breaker to win the Ahmed Sailor boys’ under-16 crown in the MSSA inter-school football tournament at Cooperage on Sunday.


In an evenly-contested final, both schools failed to score a goal. In the ensuing penalty shootout duel, the Kandivli schoolboys successfully converted their first four kicks through Ayush Pandey, Shivam Yadav, Sagar Mourya and Shubham Pathak, while only Leroy D’Silva and Jaden Alex managed to beat St Lawrence goalkeeper Adityaraj Singh. Zayne D’Souza and Rishi Jain’s shots were saved by the custodian.

Earlier, in the third place match, Campion School (Cooperage) went down fighting against a spirited St Joseph’s HS (Malad) 6-4, also via the penalty shootout tie-breaker. The match ended in an exciting 1-1 draw.

Kiaan Mistri scored from a direct first half free-kick to give Campion the lead. But Campion allowed St Joseph’s versatile striker Gaurav Mudliar the liberty to fire home the equaliser midway through the second session and force the tie-breaker.

In the shootout, St Joseph’s scored from all five attempts through Avinash Sharma, Tyrell Fernandes, Aryan Vishwakarma, Gaurav Mudliar and Kavya Tandel. 

Campion managed to convert through Kiaan Mistri, Kye D’Souza and Harsh Deora, while Siddharth Sharma shot over the bar.
