According to Spanish authorities, the vehicle in which Jota and his brother were travelling veered off a motorway in the northern province of Zamora shortly after midnight, subsequently bursting into flames. The Liverpool star forward shared a video of his wedding hours before he died.

In an intimate ceremony, Jota and Rute tied the knot, joined by their three children: Denis, born in 2021, Duarte, in 2023, and their youngest, a daughter born in November 2024, whose name remains private.
