Ryan International’s Gargi clinches U-16 chess title

Faced with stiff competition, Gargi managed to finish ahead of the field with cumulative score of 6.5 points from the seven-round event

Gargi Talwekar of Ryan International School CBSE was crowned champion in the girls’ under-16 category of the MSSA inter-school chess tournament at the St Sebastian HS, Chembur, on Thursday.

Faced with stiff competition, Gargi managed to finish ahead of the field with cumulative score of 6.5 points from the seven-round event. Freeyah Golia of Dhirubhai Ambani International School and Prutha Gajre of Fatima HS  completed with nine points each. But Freeyah with a better tie-break score of 29.5 points as compared to 28.5 of Prutha, was declared runners-up. Prutha had to settle for third place.
