Who else but the King Khan Shah Rukh Khan is our topper in the list of Newsmakers of the year 2022. The reason? The one and only Shah Rukh Khan's most eagerly awaited film ‘Pathaan' not only gets a release date, but also the film's first song has taken everyone's breath away (the controversy notwithstanding). The icing on the cake is definitely the crackling chemistry between Deepika Padukone and Shah Rukh Khan, who has yet again proved as to why he is called ‘KING Khan'!

Aayush Sharma

The year started off with many celebrities being infected with Covid 19 virus. While there were a few who succumbed to the deadly virus, there were many who fought bravely against this virus and emerged as ‘warriors', better still… ‘Covid Warriors'. The first month of the year started off with the most unexpected shocker of a news article which stated that Aayush Sharma was NO LONGER a part of Salman Khan's Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali, which has now been renamed as ‘Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan'. The reason cited was that he was wanting to do the main lead. Although Aayush never really spoke about the reason for his exit from his brother-in-law's pet project, his absence from the film wagged many a tongue!

Deepika Padukone

That Deepika Padukone is a stellar performer is a given and a fact which has been acknowledged by everyone. But this ‘Chennai Express' girl shocked everyone with her performance in ‘Gehraiyaan', a film that also starred Siddhant Chaturvedi, Ananya Panday and Dhairya Karwa in the lead roles. Besides this, she went on to announce her two films ‘Pathaan' (with Shah Rukh Khan and John Abraham) and ‘Fighter' (with Hrithik Roshan). Added to that, Deepika, besides being a jury member, also made many heads turn at ‘Cannes 2022' with her fashion quotient! And recently, Deepika Padukone also became the first Indian to unveil the FIFA trophy!

Ranveer Singh

Even though he continues to be a big draw at the Box-Office, this man SHOCKED everyone with his dare-bare act in a photograph for the international ‘Paper' magazine. It not just led to the proverbial meltdown of the internet, but also became the subject matter of almost every conversation and debates! Even FIRs got registered against the ‘Gully Boy' actor.

Kichcha Sudeep

Well… even though Kichcha Sudeep happens to be a ‘south Indian' actor, he made national headlines with his comment/ observation ‘Hindi is no more a national language'. As a ‘reply' to this, Ajay Devgn took to social media and tweeted ‘Hindi is our mother tongue, and our national language, and it will always be'. What followed after that were many back and forth comments by many ‘linguistic moral police brigade'.

Akshay Kumar

This ‘Khiladi' Kumar, for once, had to eat his words. For the uninitiated, the paan masala major ‘Vimal' signed Akshay Kumar to star alongside the likes of their other star endorsers- Shah Rukh Khan and Ajay Devgn. No sooner did Akshay Kumar feature in the ad with the (iconic) tagline ‘Bolo Zubaan Kesari', he met with countless backless people on the social media. The reason? Well… the ‘social -media- detectives' dug up many old videos and landed up laying their hands on one video of the actor wherein she had spoken against promoting ‘gutkha' brands despite being offered bug bucks. ‘Phir kya tha ! Social media became the undisputed domain to many backslashes and memes galore. All of this resulted in Akshay Kumar issuing an apology note which stated, "While I have not and will not endorse tobacco, I respect the outpouring of your feelings in light of my association with Vimal Elaichi. With all humility, I step back. I have decided to contribute the entire endorsement fee towards a worthy cause. The brand might continue airing the ads till the legal duration of the contract that is binding upon me, but I promise to be extremely mindful in making my future choices. In return I shall forever continue to ask for your love and wishes". He also made headlines when the news was out about him NOT being a part of ‘Hera Pheri 3'.

Aamir Khan

His much-awaited film got released on 11 August this year. Aamir Khan being ‘THE Aamir Khan', walked every possible extra mile in order to promote the film. Just as when everyone thought that this film will be breaking all possible records, the box-office figures mirrored a totally opposite picture. Day by day, the film's prospects at the box-office started deteriorating. The film's result took a toll on not just the film's cast but also the prospects of other Bollywood films which were waiting to be released post the pandemic. Even though Aamir Khan was seen in a guest appearance in the recently released film ‘Salaam Venky', he is on a self-confessed break so that he can spend more time with his family.

Leena Manimekalai

This name became a huge topic of conversation this year, courtesy, the controversial poster of her documentary ‘Kaali', which showed the goddess with a pride flag and a cigarette! Many FIRs were registered against the filmmaker Leena Manimekalai.

Vijay Deverakonda

Ever since Vijay Deverakonda showed his support to Aamir Khan and his film ‘Laal Singh Chaddha', the hashtag ‘Boycott Liger' started trending. Vijay, on his part said, (as per a news report in ANI), "With Liger we expected a bit of drama...but we'll fight. We've put our heart into making this film. And I believe that I am correct. I feel that there is no room for fear, when I had nothing, I didn't fear, and now after having achieved something, I don't think there needs to be any fear even now. Maa ka aashirwaad hai, Logon ka pyaar hai, Bhagwaan ka haath hai, andar aag hai, Kaun rokenge dekh lenge". These lines infuriated Manoj Desai (film exhibitor and also the owner of Maratha Mandir and Gaiety Galaxy cinemas) and called the ‘Liger' actor as ‘arrogant'. Wasting no time, Vijay flew to Mumbai and met up with Desai and cleared the misunderstanding.

Sajid Khan

Just as every year, this year too, excitement filled the air before the announcement of names of Bigg Boss's contestants. But, when the names were announced, there was one name which really shook and shocked everyone. You guessed it right! It was indeed that of filmmaker Sajid Khan. No sooner his name was announced as one of the participants, many people like Sona Mohapatra, Ali Fazal vocally expressed their displeasure. The social media was full of negative reactions over Sajid's participation in the show. Despite all of this, Sajid Khan still continues to be a part of ‘Bigg Boss 16'.

Even though his much-talked about film ‘The Kashmir Files' went on to break records at the box-office, what happened at IFFI (International Film Festival of India) was very unexpected. The film festival's jury member Nadav Lapid termed the film as ‘vulgar' at the closing ceremony of the festival. As a reply to that, Vivek reacted strongly by taking to social media and posted, ‘What is common between these? "India is a FASCIST country" "Modi is FASCIST" "BJP is fascist" "Hindu right-wing is FASCIST" "Abrogation of Art 370 a FASCIST decision" "Kashmir is occupied by FASCIST Indian regime" "#TheKashmirFiles is a fascist film'.
