CBI Joint Director Rishi Raj Singh has refused to comment on the progress of the ongoing investigation into the 2006 murder, but more than 48 hours after Patil's arrest, officials have not been able to get a detailed confession from him, said insiders.

Strong mindAnother reason is Patil's status as a Member of Parliament. CBI officials, unlike their counterparts in Mumbai police, generally avoid using strong arms tactics against senior politicians.

Already, the CBI is in possession of key suspect Tanaji Patil's narco report, which mentioned Patil and a Rajiv Baba as Nimbalkar's killers. Investigators are beginning to suspect that Rajiv Baba could be an alias of someone in Patil's family.
