D Sivanandan in his first press conference as Mumbai Commissioner of Police told reporters that his first and foremost priority was to put an end to terrorist attacks in Mumbai. "Our first priority is to ensure safety of all citizens by tackling terrorism properly," said the new commissioner

Sivanandan took over from Hasan Gafoor this morning who was transferred to the post of DG of Maharashtra state police Housing and Welfare Corporation.

Apart from terrorist attacks, Sivanandan added that other priorities included ensuring safety for women, senior citizens and minority communities. "It is the responsibility of the commissioner to ensure a safe Mumbai. The buck stops here. It is better to speak less and do more and so I hope to deliver," he said.

He also had a message for his own force urging them to act as an untied team and promised to standby the police force and support them by bettering their lives by introducing better facilities like hospitals.

Responding to allegations of corruption within the force, Sivanandan said that he would try his best to present a 'transparent administration.' He added that intelligence needed to be shaped up and he would work towards improving this.

Another issue that the new CP is hoping to address is the sale of narcotics to youth. "We need to ensure that the next generation has a better life and a better environment. We are working towards curbing the sale of these psychotropic drugs to youth."
