Mumbai battles second Covid-19 wave: Long queues for vaccination

On Friday, Mumbai reported 3,039 new Covid-19 cases, while 71 patients succumbed to the infection. Long queues were observed outside vaccination centres across the city amid shortage of vaccines  (All photos: mid-day photographers)

Long queues and crowding at vaccination centres in Mumbai has become a concern as the civic body is struggling to vaccinate citizens amid short supply of vaccines

Taking into account the success of the drive-in vaccination initiative at Dadar's Kohinoor parking lot, the BMC decided to start one such vaccine delivery point in each of its 24 wards. According to civic officials, the facilities will be open to citizens above 60 years of age, but only by appointment.

Recently, BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal said that war rooms, dashboards for bed management, prohibition of release of test report directly to patients, and the decision not to dismantle jumbo Covid-19 facilities proved useful in the fight against the second wave of the novel coronavirus.
