French Loaf, a spanking new bakery at Andheri, doesn't quite live up to its name
You might get enticed into dropping into Andheri's new bakery when you spot the crowd that throngs outside, like we were. It's enough to pique your curiosity, but even the fancy name can't quite mask the problem they have with quality.
The Chicken Croissant (Rs 55), Chicken Quiche (Rs 65) and Veg Calzone (Rs 55) were average, nothing different from what's dished out at your neighbourhood coffee chain outlet. The fillings were stone cold, despite being popped into a microwave. That's where these guys went wrong again. You don't have to be French to know that you don't stuff Croissants into microwave unless you want a piping hot, rubbery product to emerge. The Chicken Quiche was yummy, though, but it could have done with a fresher crust.
If you drop in late evening, you'll be digging into stuff that was baked in the morning. The dessert section had Fudge Brownie (Rs 50), Chocolate Classic (Rs 70) among a whole range of goodies.u00a0 The brownie was soft and gooey, Chocolate Classic was like a Black Forest pastry. Pick up a loaf of sliced bread if you want to make some French toast for breakfast.
