The deceased was believed to be a cousin of Maharashtra Industries Minister Narayan Rane, who has since denied that he is related to the victim.
The source said though no arrests have been made so far, the department has interrogated a number of persons including all family members whom the deceased met when he had got down from the bus in Kankavli.

Ankush, a farmer, had gone missing on April 17 when he was was returning home from a market in Kankavli, more than 250 kms from Mumbai.

His body was found 25 kms away from Kankavli on the night of April 19. The case assumed political undertones after Narayan Rane suspected the Shiv Sena's involvement in the murder.

S P S Yadav, chief of state CID, said "I cannot comment on this matter at this juncture as investigations are on. We have not come across anything which suggests that the Shiv Sena is involved in the murder."
