  • Download it and take a printout for further reference.

GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) 2022 was conducted all over India in various exam centers on February 5, 6, and 12, 13, 2022. IIT Kharagpur will release the final GATE 2022 Answer Key and question paper PDFs along with the announcement of result.

The minimum qualifying marks will also be mentioned in the GATE 2022 result. This is the cutoff needed to qualify in a particular subject paper. GATE 2022 cut-off will be prepared based on various factors like the number of appearing candidates, raw score secured by candidates, and more.

Please note that the below cutoffs are not official and have been prepared by GATE preparation experts.

  • The cutoff is expected to be 30-35 for Agriculture Engineering (AG).
  • The expected cutoff is 38-45 for Architecture and Planning (AR).
  • For Aerospace Engineering (AE), the expected cutoff is 30-35.
  • The expected cutoff is 26-32 for Civil Engineering (CE).
  • For Chemical Engineering (CH), the expected cutoff is 32-36.
  • The expected cutoff for Computer Science (CS) is 28-33.
  • For Electronics and Communication Engineering (EC), the cutoff is expected to be 24-28.
  • For Electrical Engineering (EE), the expected cutoff is 36-42.
  • The expected cutoff for Mechanical Engineering (ME) is 32-36.
  • For Textile Engineering and Fibre Science (TF), the expected cutoff is 39-45.

Every year due to the maximum number of candidates opting for ME, CE papers, these two papers are conducted in multiple sessions i.e., in the morning and afternoon sessions. So, to calculate the scores of these papers, the authorities use GATE 2022 Score Normalization technique. The normalization is done based on the formula below:

To ensure that no candidate is disadvantaged and has the same level of difficulty, IITs normalized the GATE raw score, which is out of 100. Further, the below graph can help understand the relationship between actual marks and normalized marks.

The graph is showing a linear relationship between the ‘actual marks’ and ‘normalized marks’ of a candidate, in multiple-session papers (CE or ME) of GATE 2022.

Mgt = average marks of top 0.1 % candidates in all sessions of that subject.

Mgq = mean + standard deviation, of marks of all candidates in all sessions of that subject.

Mti = average marks of top 0.1 % candidates in the ith session of that subject.

Miq = mean + standard deviation, of marks of all candidates in the ith session of that subject

What after GATE 2022 Result?

After meeting the cutoff for GATE 2022, the candidates can apply for post-graduation in engineering colleges using their GATE 2022 score.

GATE Counselling is expected to start from 4th week of March 2022. IIT Kharagpur will conduct  2 different counselling process- COAP and CCMT. COAP is a common platform where all IITs upload admission offer letters in common time window.  On the other hand, CCMT is a centralised counselling process for M.Tech admission in NITs and CFTIs.

Candidates may also apply for various jobs through their GATE 2022 results. More than 50 PSUs including IOCL, ONGC, NTPC will recruit candidates based on their GATE 2022 scores.
