Maharashtra civic polls: Vote counting for the KDMC elections is underway amid tight security. Early trends show BJP and Shiv Sena leading with 28 seats each, giving the Mahayuti alliance a clear edge as final results are awaited

Alongside her, Varsha Tembvalkar in Ward 51 and Shaila Lande in Ward 163 also emerged victorious, reinforcing Shiv Sena’s presence in the city

Shrikant Pangarkar contested from Ward No. 13 and defeated his closest rival, Raosaheb Dhoble of the BJP. Pangarkar secured 2,661 votes, while Dhoble received 2,477 votes, according to a polling official

According to election officials, the Congress emerged as the largest party with 43 seats. The BJP won 22 seats, the Vanchit Bahujan Aaghadi secured four seats, and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) managed to win one seat

BMC Election Results 2026 LIVE Updates: Maharashtra Minister Ashish Shelar thanked voters for their participation in the elections held across all 29 municipal corporations in the state, describing the exercise as a &ldquo;festival of democracy.&rdquo; Shelar said that voters had actively taken part in the democratic process and expressed gratitude to them for their support. He added that the results of the civic body elections would be discussed in detail after they are officially declared. &ldquo;I want to make it clear that voters participated in the elections for all 29 municipal corporations and supported this festival of democracy, for which I thank them. We will definitely discuss the results after they are declared,&rdquo; Shelar said. The minister also informed that he would be meeting Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at the latter&rsquo;s residence later in the day. The BJP-led alliance has taken an early lead in Mumbai, according to official trends released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The Bharatiya Janata Party is ahead with 17 seats, followed by Shiv Sena (UBT) with nine seats. The Shiv Sena has secured five seats so far, while the Indian National Congress is leading in three wards. Among other parties, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen is ahead in two seats, while the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, the Samajwadi Party, and the Nationalist Congress Party are leading in one seat each.&nbsp;Elections to the 29 municipal corporations were held after a gap of several years, with terms of most of them having ended between 2020 and 2023. Of these, nine fall in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), the most urbanised belt in India. Voting took place in these municipal corporations: Mumbai, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Navi Mumbai, Vasai-Virar, Kalyan-Dombivli, Kolhapur, Nagpur, Solapur, Amravati, Akola, Nashik, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pune, Ulhasnagar, Thane, Chandrapur, Parbhani, Mira-Bhayandar, Nanded-Waghala, Panvel, Bhiwandi-Nizampur, Latur, Malegaon, Sangli-Miraj-Kupwad, Jalgaon, Ahilyanagar, Dhule, Jalna and Ichalkaranji.
