What draws IT talent to Sopra Steria?

I, Vimmi Chachra, CHRO, Sopra Steria India wish to shed light on this eclectic and growing and young-at-heart organization of ours.

Sopra Steria India is the Indian arm of the European leader in consulting, digital services, and software development, and is a trusted service partner for more than 70 European customers.

In case you’ve begun to wonder why a four-decade-old organization would call itself young at heart, then let me put your curiosity to rest by sharing with you that over 85% of our team in India comprises of millennials; yet we have a lot of experience altogether with more than 35% of the people, who have served 5 years in the organization. We are in a unique position to enjoy the young and experienced workforce. Each year hundreds of bright young minds apply to join us. Contrary to popular belief, it is not just the breadth of technology and applications, we also offer the depth of the domains as a leader in Digital Transformation. Each time I meet a new batch of the young blood joining our workforce, I am proud to see how and why they choose Sopra Steria – for the values, culture, and career opportunities it offers.

With a  strong presence of 5000+ people in Noida, Chennai, Pune and Bengaluru who support the customers in the full technology lifecycle, Sopra Steria is expanding its India presence significantly. A new corporate campus is being set up that will have a combined capacity of close to 10,000. This year alone, over 1500+ new employees have been recruited.

What drives Sopra Steria in its daily business?

Our Sopra Steria Values are deeply woven deep into the fabric of our operations and transactions. Openness and Curiosity, Team Spirit, Willingness to act positively, Customer Focus, Professional Excellence and Respect for others have always been the key pillars of our DNA. We encourage innovation to explore new avenues and exploit innovative technologies that will enable transformations to be carried out for the benefit of all. Beyond technologies, we are convinced that collective intelligence, an alliance between team spirit and everyone’s talent, contributes to transforming and advancing the world in a sustainable, responsible and ethical manner. We want to make innovation useful to as many people as possible and propose sustainable solutions and we are convinced that collaboration is our strength, that the best solutions are found together. And, this is why we adopt a position of listening and being close to our customers, partners and employees.

What are Sopra Steria’s key pull factors?

First and foremost, a big pull factor is our Learning opportunities. From our Campus to the Sopra Steria program, they have helped hundreds of young engineers make the transition to professional life. For the experienced ones, we have partnered with many learning technology platforms to curate learning journeys customized to an employee’s need. Aside from technical training, there are many learning opportunities for honing both functional and people capabilities. Similarly, over the years our managers have benefited from the managerial and leadership development programs. We even have industry tie-ups to groom our women technology enthusiasts and our first time/ young leaders.

Secondly, we lay great emphasis on the importance of Employee Wellbeing. The pandemic saw us responding swiftly to help our employees with increased benefits and flexibility. Our wellness program with our wellness partners has focused among other things, on the emotional wellbeing of our employees and their families. We are able to help our employees with confidential support, resources and information on personal and work-life matters. We continue to have inspirational and health related sessions for all employees and sometimes, their families.

The third important factor is Employee Engagement. We are proud of our managers and leaders, who have stepped up, shown resilience and attempted to go beyond barriers for enhanced business and customer orientation and in keeping our task force motivated, and future-ready. To cope with the new normal we have implemented several innovative ways to remain engaged with our colleagues, this includes sessions on mindfulness to help employees build resilience and deal with crisis, concentrated sessions by Doctors/Experts, virtual walkathons, yoga sessions, virtual coffee sessions, and many more. We launched our own radio infotainment show which had both employees and leaders exchanging lighter moments and music.

The pandemic altered the world of work in unimaginable ways and its effects have been long lasting– perhaps even permanent in nature. However, this crisis also provided an opportunity for us to re-shape our mission in a manner that helped us navigate through this crisis and thereafter.  We did some rethinking about work-life balance and are now bringing in hybrid working to help employees balance their various roles and responsibilities, both personal and professional.

So, while it is an understatement that people will always want to work for the organization that has their best interests and well-being at heart, we at SopraSteria, recognize that people are at the heart of everything we do. And, I am proud to say we are embedded in business and driven by empathy.
