Insolvency Professional & President of MSME Development Forum – West Bengal Chapter, Dr. (h.c.) CS Adv Mamta Binani completes a triumphant 25 years in her profession. She has been the All India President of The Institute of Company Secretaries of India in 2016 and in the Institute’s illustrious history of more than 50 years, she has been the second lady President, a true embodiment of Women Empowerment and balancing family and work. She proudly belongs to a joint family structure and she believes in interdependence! She is a corporate law consultant and insolvency practitioner and works passionately for the betterment of the MSME sector, morefully the micro sector.


In 1996, she was named the All-India Topper in the Institute of Company Secretaries of India’s Intermediate Examinations. She has served as the Chairperson of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India’s Eastern India Regional Council. She has been bestowed with various medals, certificates and awards including the prestigious D.L. Mazumdar’s Silver Medal, Tejaswini Award(2010) and Mauji Ram Memorial Award, the “Bharat Nirman Awards” in the year 2010 for “Excellence in Professional Services” (the first Company Secretary to have received this prestigious award), the KKMERS award for excellence in profession and also the ‘Hello Kolkata’ award for exemplary work in social sector. She is also awarded with the ‘Insolvency Law Award’ for India by the International Advisory Experts (IAE) for the year 2020.


On this occasion, CS (Dr.) Adv. Mamta Binani, Insolvency Professionals & President of MSME Development Forum WB Chapter said, "Insolvency law is ever evolving. Keeping a strong and focussed eye on rehabilitation and restitution, the insolvency professional and the coc spearheads the process towards its optimal level. Sometimes things look different from the other side but the real temperature is felt and hence worked upon best by the person in the midst of it, within the framework given by law. Trust deficit doesnot serve any purpose!"

Ms. Binani has served as a jury member of the ICSI National Award for Excellence in Corporate Governance and CSR, 2016, the Golden Peacock Award of The Institute of Directors for the year 2016, ASSOCHAM Award for Commendable CSR Activity for the year 2016. She is the Vice President of the Kolkata National Company Law Tribunal Bar Association, the Chairperson of the Merchant Chamber of Commerce-Legal Affairs Council, and also an executive committee member of INSOL India. She was the Board Member of International Women’s Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation (IWIRC) and was the Co-Chair of the India Network.

Ms. Binani is an Independent Director in some of the reputed Boards of the Country. Ms. Binani feels that the government is the engine and that as a member of that machinery, it is her responsibility to highlight the government’s efforts by bringing them to the masses and classes.

Ms. Binani is a regular acclaimed speaker at professional forums and shares her passion for writing through leading journals, magazines and newspapers. She has represented the institute at various forums in many countries in the matters of contemporary laws, governance and corporate social responsibility. She is consulting in new age laws and talking on the social stock exchange and the ESG framework.
