The Cycle Diver (Turkey) Director: Dervis Zaim Duration: 75 minutes Hasanpasa, a village in the Burdurdisctric of Turkey, holds a traditional shepherding contest at the end of every summer. The contest involves shepherds herding their entire flock of sheep through a pool of water. Attempting to extricate himself from a self-dug hole, Ram encounters more obstacles than he can count, and ultimately finds a remedy to his numerous problems by encountering a spiritual adviser, legendary Dada Bhagwan. The Passion of Michelangelo (Chile) Director: Esteban Larrain Duration: 99 minutes In 1983 as Chilean demonstrations against Pinochet&rsquo;s military regime gathered strength, the government seized upon the strange story of 14-year-old teenager Miguel Angel as a means of diverting attention from the public&rsquo;s growing discontent. In Penablanca, not far from Valparaiso, the charismatic Angel swore he could see the Virgin Mary at the top of a local hill and hundreds of thousands of people made the pilgrimage to the &lsquo;holy&rsquo; spot. Angel attained rock-star status, but inevitably, he fell fast and hard. A Night too Young (France) Director: Olmo Omerzu Duration: 65 minutes Two boys meet Katerina, a teacher from their school, and her friends David and Stepan who are on their way back from a somehow unsuccessful New Year&rsquo;s party in the mountains on a tobogganing slope on New Year&rsquo;s Day. They end up in Katerina&rsquo;s flat and spend the night there. As if taking part in a ritual, the boys are permitted to take a glimpse at the adult world where they learn about transgression, lost innocence, power games, seductions and yearnings. They part the next morning, each one night older. Ko:Yad (India) Director: Manju Borah Duration: 90 minutes Paukam is the offspring of a broken family &mdash; his father went with another woman and his mother committed suicide after she was raped by another. Paukam earGoins his livelihood by collecting firewood from the rivers Disang and Brahmahaputra in a boat given to him by his father. He marries Taksari and has three children. He manages to give opportunities to his eldest son but the son goes away. Even the others deserts Paukam and Taksiri because they were not given the opportunities their brother got. Later, Paukam also loses his only belonging, his boat. Vicky Donor (India) Director: Shoojit Sircar Duration: 126 minutes Made as a comedy, it is about a man who is brought in by an infertility doctor to supply him with his sperm. He soon becomes the biggest sperm donor for the clinic. Apart from getting him into awkward situations, this starts affecting his personal life until the doctor comes to his rescue by showing to his beloved the kind of work he has been doing and the number of families who have benefitted. Akashthinte Niram &ndash; Color of Sky (India) Director: Dr Biju Kumar Damodaran Duration: 117 minutes A 60-year-old man living on an isolated island visits the nearby harbour in a motor boat once a month to sell handicrafts. A young burglar keeps taboos on him and one day jumps onto the motor boat and demands money. The old man calmly takes the motor boat towards his island. Here the burglar meets the people who live with the old man: a seven-year-old boy, a 20-year-old deaf and dumb lady, and a middle-aged man with a stammer. The intruder confronts rare life situations and his concept about life changes as he learns how nature blends with life. Ship of Theseus (India) Director: Anand Gandhi Duration: 139 minutes As the planks of Theseus&rsquo; ship needed repair, it was replaced part by part up to a point where not a single part from the original ship remained in it. So which would be the real Ship? An unusual photographer grapples with the loss of her intuitive brilliance as an aftermath of a clinical procedure. An erudite monk confronting an ethical dilemma with a long-held ideology has to choose between principle and death. And a young stockbroker following the trail of a stolen kidney learns how intricate morality can be. Shunyo Awnyo (India) Director: Goutam Ghose Duration: 127 minutes The film has six principal characters who recall their past dreams of varying colours and shades but are bound to follow their lives bound by daily compulsions. The film is about two ways of looking at the country: one confident, vibrant and growing where liberalism is the order of the day and consumerism the last last word; and the other, pushed to the margin: the poor, helpless, denied of even basic necessities of existence. At the same time issues of insurgency, infiltration and proxy wars co-exist in tandem. It is a journey from void to eternity. Mother India (India) Director: Mehboob Khan Duration: 172 minutes In this melodrama, a poverty-stricken woman raises her sons through many trials and tribulations. But no matter the struggles, always sticks to her own moral code. Chokher Bali (India) Director: Rituparno Ghosh Duration: 167 minutes Binodini is a young woman left to her own devices when her sickly husband dies soon after they are married. She soon starts living with her friend and son, Mahendra. When the two arrive, the woman&rsquo;s son and his new bride are constantly sneaking off to be alone together. This infatuation does not last long, and Mahendra soon begins to see that this wife&rsquo;s friend Binodini is more his type. The story details the lives of these three and Mahendra&rsquo;s best friend as they deal with issues as distrust, adultery, lies and fallings-out. Do Beegha Zameen (India) Director: Bimol Roy Duration: 142 minutes A small Bengali landowner and his young son are in danger when their two-acre farmland where they live is in danger of being taken over by a local zamindar (feudal lord) for failure to pay for mounting debits. They move to Calcutta where the father tries making a living as a rickshaw puller while his wife joins him but falls ill which threatens everything they have going to try to save their ancestorial home. Charulata (India) Director: Satyajit Ray Duration: 117 minutes Set in British India in the 19th century, the film revolves around Charulata, the beautiful wife of a learned Calcutta intellectual. She sits at home alone while her wealthy husband Bhupati runs his English language newspaper. Upon recognizing her profound loneliness, Bhupati invites his brother-in-law Umapada and wife Mandakini as house guests. Amal, his handsome younger cousin also comes for a visit following his graduation from college. Charu and Amal spend hours reminiscing over literature, poetry and the arts while Bhupati works on his paper. For a short time everyone is content. Then, a tragedy occurs. Umapada absconds with Bhupati&rsquo;s savings, leaving the entrepreneur in terrible debt. But the betrayed man soon realises that something much more precious than his money is lost.
