The Indian cricket team might not have done us proud at the T20 World Cup, but this chess wizard surely has. Here's some information on Vishwanathan Anand, the man who recently defended the World Cup title:

Anand's mother taught him to play chess at the age of 6.

In 1984, Anand became the youngest Indian to be awarded the International Master title at the age of 15.

Anand is one of the five players in history to break the 2800 mark on the FIDE rating list.

In April 2007, at the age of 37, he became the oldest person to become world number-one for the first time. In October 2008, he dropped out of the world top three ranking for the first time since July 1996.

Anand has a degree in commerce from Loyola College in Chennai.

Anand's manager is his wife, Aruna.
