While it is no mean feat to be sitting next to a legend like Ian McKellen, there's little excuse for fits of forgetfulness (like being reminded that McKellen was turning a year older two days later, and then the name of Vishal Bhardwaj's first adaptation of a Shakespearean novel, both courtesy the audience). It was disappointing considering that Aamir spends a helluva lot of time on research before delving into anything.
There was even a point when Aamir abruptly got up, saying, "I really need to pee, I will take two minutes while the audience can ask you questions," leaving both the actor on stage and the audience stunned.
However, Sir McKellen salvaged the situation, as he continued sharing anecdotes from his life and work and working his charm on the audience. With more 'stars' than actors around us, it was refreshing to see an actor of his stature as he left everyone star-struck with his forthrightness, humility, curiosity about people and a clear zeal for life.
