The internet archival site, Wayback Machine, has been blocked. Users trying to access the site have been receiving messages saying the block is upon the directions of India's Department of Telecom.
The stoppage comes as a result of two Bollywood production companies issuing a mass takedown request against websites allegedly hosting pirated copies of their films.
The website bans were granted by the Madras High Court on August 2. They had been sought by Prakash Jha and Ekta Kapoor for their film, Lipstick Under My Burkha and Red Chillies Entertainment for Jab Harry Met Sejal. Wayback is an Internet archive with billions of pages saved over the past two decades.
