Trade pundits attributed its commercial success to the apt release date. Vishal Anand of Fun Cinemas said, "It was a wise decision to not release the film on October 23, on the occasion of Diwali, as people generally prefer to be at home on that day. So, when the film hit the theatres the day after, people just kept pouring in to watch the film."
The film has not only made the fastest Rs 100 crore at the box office but has also broken the record of first day collection of 'Singham Returns' by a huge margin.
Trade analyst Amod Mehra said, "'Happy New Year' has beaten Singham Returns by nearly Rs 10crore. It recorded the highest weekend collection and also grossed the fastest Rs 100 crore in three days. Post the festive weekend, the film will still manage to register the highest first week collection."
