I always wanted to play with an Indian band, and this was a great opportunity for me." We spoke to him to know more about his love for music:
Music mania
I have to tell you that even if cricket is my first love, music is my second. Music refreshes my mind and gets me in an upbeat mood. It has been an important part of my life for many years now and I have found solace in my music in my tough times. Whenever I am not on the field, I spend time composing my own music. And hopefully in the coming year, my band White Shoe Theory will release its own album.
All in the family
Though I sing quite often, I'm not a trained singer per se. I am a musician by inheritance (smiles). I have my dad's love for classical music. My mum was also a piano teacher. My younger brother Grant, taught me to play the piano. I also love playing the guitar which I have learnt on my own. So, music has always been a part and parcel of our family.
Song therapy
My music always accompanies me wherever I go. I do play my guitar in the dressing room (laughs). When the Australian team gets together for a informal gathering, Shane Watson, Jason Krezja, and I get our guitars and pull some strings to entertain the team. It helps us unwind after a gruelling day on the field.
On my playlist
When it comes to my favourite musicians, I really enjoy Robbie Williams. I have grown up listening to his songs. I also enjoy few Australian bands like Crowded House. Some of the songs that you will always find on my play list are Summer of 69, Brown Eyed Girl, Proud Mary and Sweet Home Alabama. Amongst the Indian musicians I really like Asha Bhosle, she is wonderful singer and an amazing person. I admire her voice quality and singing style. I also feel that M-Majors do some fabulous fusion music.
