Cause she cares

Kavita Krishnamurthy, in her illustrious career spanning more than two decades, has sung a variety of songs. Like a number of great artistes, she believes in giving back to the society, and what better than giving back through her talent! Kavita spoke to CS about the causes close to her heart and shares fond memories of working with her favourite music composer duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal:

Straight from my heart
There are some causes I really care for. Causes related to women, AIDS, old-age homes, orphanages and special children are the ones I am associated with. I am very fond of dogs and therefore, I am associated with the Stray Dog Association too.

Talent for a cause
Since I am an artiste, I have helped these causes by singing songs at fund raising events, organised by these particular foundations. I don’t believe in donating monetarily for the causes but I can give back to the society by raising funds through my singing.

Song down memory lane
I have many fond memories of Laxmikant-Pyarelal because I started my career with them as a dubbing artist in 1979-80. At that point of time, Laxmikant gave me an option to work as a dubbing artist or to begin my career as a playback singer. I chose the former and managed to impress Laxmikant with my extremely strong grasp of Hindustani classical music.

I had the good fortune of singing Tumse Milkar Na Jane Kyon from the film Pyar Jhukta Nahin and Hawa Hawai and Karte Hain Hum Pyar Mr India Se, both from Mr India, which were turning points in my career. It was again the same duo who composed all these songs. My collaboration with them has produced several hits and I will always be grateful to them for that. u00a0
